How Real is the Recovery in Contract Services?
Jim Miller, President PharmSource, and Outsourcing columnist for Pharmaceutical Technology
(Located In Room #1E07)
Contract service providers experienced modest growth in 2010, and there is general optimism about prospects for 2011. Certainly there is reason for optimism: RFP flow and backlog are up considerably, venture-backed companies appear more confident about spending their money, and global bio/pharma companies are more committed than ever to outsourcing development activities.
Nevertheless, there are reasons for service providers to be cautious: preclinical demand is still weak, NDA approvals are slow in coming, and downward pressures on drug pricing will be directed downward to manufacturers.
In this year’s presentation, Jim Miller will review these countervailing trends and give his assessment of the medium-term prospects for the contract services industry.

China: The New Pharma Frontier
(Located in the INTERPHEXConnects Area: Booth #3477)
Pharma is going east, Far East in a big way. All of the pharma majors are setting up manufacturing facilities, if not R&D organizations in China, and many contract manufacturers and suppliers are following them there. But the regulatory and business landscape is unknown terrain for most just entering the Chinese market. Our panelists have surveyed this unknown landscape and will address some of the basics about doing business in China, including working with the SFDA (the Chinese FDA) and other government agencies.
